Mr Cellophane

Apparently I am rather unnoticable. Well, not exactly unnoticable but when people look at me it seems that they don't register my appearance.

This revelation came to me on Tuesday of this week. I decided to shave my beard off again. Just to see how it looks. The last time I did this I wasn't happy with the results. And the same conclusion was arrived at this time. I have way tooo much of a baby face. I lost about 15 years off my face with the simple flick of a razor. But, that's the wonderous thing about hair, you can cut it and it will grow right back. By next week I will be a bearded buffoon once again.

The reason I think you can see right through me, walk right by me is because when I went to work people looked at me and some registered a change in my appearance. Sadly I wasn't asked about why I shaved. Instead I was asked repeatedly, "Did you cut your hair?" One girl still couldn't figure it out even after I gave her a photo of my bearded visage. She looked at the picture and back at my face a few times and felt that it was the same.

Other than the new face, not much else is new with me. I am working a regular schedule and just getting by day to day.

On a side note I must say that I have been reading one of the most interesting books that I have ever read. "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. If you have read it, please don't tell me anything about the book or movie. If you haven't read I highly highly recommend it to everyone.

I have always been interested in the mathematician Fibonacci. Anyone who's seen the movie Pi will remember a bried mention of his name and the pattern in all nature that follows the golden ratio. The number he came up with is 1.618. If you take a rectangle where the longer side is 1.618 times the shorter side. Draw a line to make a sguare inside. You will end up with another rectangle of the same proportion. The ratio is also found in our bodies. If you measure your total height and the distance from your navel to your feet you will arrive at the same "Golden Ratio." It is also found on seashells, snail shells, dna strands, architecture, art and the stock market.

In the coming days I will be posting some information about the stock market and how the Elliot wave is tied to the Fibonacci sequence.

Another aspect that interested me in the book is the hidden history of the church and the Priory of Sion. All this ties back to the time of Christ. It involves the Freemasons and the Pope as well.

If you are interested in things like this then you ought to read this book.

And if you are interested in music, you can also link to a blog containing my music collection in the sidebar, or click here.

I wish I had the know how

I don't call myself a genius. I don't tell people I'm smart. I don'tbrag about myIQ test scores. I don't do crosswords and word puzzles so that others will think that I am smart. In fact I wouldn't even go so far to say that I am of high intelligence. But I wouldn't say I'm stupid either. And I would hope that there are not many people out there who would call me stupid. But today I paid a man 300NTD ($13.00CDN) to do just that.

Last week my fridge stopped working. I'm not sure when, but by the time I figured it out all the meat in my freezer was soft. I threw out a lot of food since I had gone shopping just a few days before. We called the company and they sent a repair man this morning before noon. He walked into my house. He opened the door to my fridge. He removed a panel at the back. He flicked a switch. He replaced the panel. He charged me 300NTD. I felt so stupid.

Sadly, this isn't the first time this has happened. About 2.5 years ago the water pressure in my kitchen was really low. Adrian and I did all we could to get the pressure back but it was all for naught. We called the plumber. He came into the house. He turned on the water. He turned off the water. He unscrewed the little filter on the end of the tap. He banged it against my sink to dislodge the filtered out pebbles and sediment. He screwed it back on. He turned on the water with pressure restored. He charged us 200NTD.

Neither incident upset me, since it is wholly a matter of me not knowing better. if either problem occurs in the future I will know what to do. But to the past experiences I will consider them lessons well learned.

A new look.

Welcome back Mike.

I guess it's time that I got back to filling this space with my meandering musings. Not too sure what's happened in the last month. Not a whole hell of a lot actually. I've been teaching quite a bit and watching movies. First, the bad movie. WARNING WARNING Below may contain spoilers!!

The Forgotten
What a disappoinment this was. I totally was expecting it to be a psychological thriller. But it turns out it's about aliens. I mean really? Aliens? What a lame ending. It ranks up there with "And then I woke up." Don't waste your time with this one. Don't even watch it when it's free on HBO. Julianne Moore, an actress I respect, surprised me by appearing in this film. I can't believe she agreed to do this. Maybe this is one of those "contractual obligation" movies. The studio probably pitched a great Oscar worthy movie and then told her she could only get the part if she agreed to do this piece of tripe.

The Incredibles
The title says it all. This has to be the most amazing CG movie I have ever seen. The textures and the hair were fantastic. Every second of the movie was beautiful. And the story was great and the humour was stupendous. I won't say too much about it. Just go see it.

This last weekend Louise and I went to check out the Ministry of Sound in Taipei. If you don't know what the MOS is let me tell you. It's the world leading dance club. This month is foreign friend's month and so Louise and I were able to get in for free. Thanks to my Canadian passport. The club was a lot like Metro. Huge interior and great music. Definitely a great club to go dancing in.
